The last gender neutral language workshop in October has been a great success. The participants who gave feedback all said they would recommend it to colleagues, if it was to be organized again (read the summary of the survey here).

The GS department implemented on CERN’s GIS Portal information to improve mobility for people with disability, namely the location of reserved parking places, wheelchair accessible restrooms and the path from the CERN entrance to the main building. A dedicated map of wheelchair accessible facilities you can find here, also for download as pdf.

The Diversity team, in collaboration with the Translation and Minutes group (DG-TM), has organised a workshop entitled “Rédiger en français sans exclure: questions de genre”, inviting us to think about the use of non-discriminatory language in French in terms of gender.

On the 15th of July 2014, the Diversity programme organised an intergenerational workshop entitled "Forum for discussion: Making a career in science". The aim was to provide a forum where young students / researchers could share their questions about making a career in science with more experienced scientists present in the room.

Tomorrow, 8 March, is International Women's Day (link is external), an occasion that has been observed since the early 1900s to inspire change for the equal rights and treatment of women in society. One aim of the day is to draw attention to the struggle for equal rights and representation for women in the workforce. A part of this year's theme – Inspiring change – is to "inspire change for more women in science, engineering and technology". So to mark International Women's Day, we asked voices from the CERN community to express their opinions on gender, diversity and collaboration at CERN.

Jocelyn Bell Burnell is a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford. In a career spanning over four decades, she has made outstanding contributions to astronomy, the public understanding of science, in particular advancing the role of women in science, and to the promotion of physics.
