Support Structures for people with disabilities
Disability is one of the five dimensions covered by CERN’s diversity policy, embedded under “Individual Differences”. We therefore adress the special needs of people with reduced mobility, meaning access and equipment as needed as well as support structures as appropriate for persons with temporary or permanent disabilities.
Finding infrastructures for people with reduced mobility
CERN’s GIS Portal provides information on the location of reserved parking places, wheelchair accessible restrooms and the path from the CERN entrance to the main building when ticking the acccording point of interest-box. A dedicated map of wheelchair accessible facilities you can find here, also for download as pdf and available at the reception desk.
- Obtaining an access card: The Registration Service issuing access cards is located at the ground floor in bldg. 55 and therefore accessible.
- Obtaining a CERN computer account: This can be done via email. The supervisor requests the account data via firstname.lastname@example.org (link sends e-mail).
- Obtaining an office key: The supervisor turns in a request for a key before arrival of the member of personnel via email@example.com (link sends e-mail) stating that the receiver has a reduced mobility. The key will then be deposited at the Registration Service and handed over together with the CERN access card. At arrival, the Registration Service must be reminded to hand over the key.
- Procedure for registering an attendant to assist CERN Members of Personnel or a beneficiary of the Pension Fund needing assistance in mobility (see: 1.11 External - ACCO reason)
Only temporarily with reduced mobility?
The procedure to obtain a temporary "reduced mobility" parking permit in order to use parking spaces that are reserved for people with disabilities on the CERN site, can be found here.
